3 days around Mono Lake                                       home  ]

We packed our bikes in Mark's van, the dog and food in my convertible, and we four were off for the eastern side of the Sierras. We stopped in Bridgeport to sample the famous natural hotsprings on BLM land. Amazing, with an even more amazing vista from the pools. Nice people there too. Setting up camp at Oh Ridge, we went swimming in June Lake the next morning to wash off. The water was brisk but crystal clear. After a quick lunch, we biked around Obsidian Dome to the south. Then split up -- Darryl and I checking out the south tufa deposits on trails at Mono Lake, M+A going south to Mammoth Mountain. That night thunderstorms moved in as expected, clearing the campgrounds except for a few diehards like us. While hailstones fell and lighting flashed overhead, we threw up a tarp while Anthony made fabulous tofu scramble. The next day it was breakfast on the road and goodbyes to the quiet majesty of the basin and range of the eastern Sierras. Unforgettable. Aug 13-15, 2005
